Bringing Braxton Cage to Life: Gary Moore
When I was asked to join the cast of Courage, New Hampshire, I was simply thrilled for several reasons. My first reason was a chance to work with one of my idols in the acting world, the talented Basil Hoffman. My second reason was the chance to be a part of a decent family friendly drama of which there are few these days. My third reason was as an actor being asked to come to LA to shoot a pilot is an honor I will never forget.
That being said, this was a great challenge for me as an actor. I have been the lead of a few films, and have done many day roles in my career. I would say in general that an actor coming in for just a few days in the middle of a production that has already begun, is not an easy task. One needs to try and make some quick connections with the rest of the cast and crew. I arrived the day before and came to visit the set and start meeting all the great actors and crew and quickly made many friends.
This experience also presented me with the challenge of performing a special British accent. I have done many British accents over my career; the latest was in the new film, Return to the Hiding Place, due out later this year. In Courage, I was asked to do a Manchester, England accent. However, to add difficulty to this challenge it needed to be in the 1700’s. I quickly got the help of world-renowned dialect coach, Paul Meier. I sent him my scene and then we worked together over Skype. He liked my accent but was able to give me special correction on the 1700’s accent with specific words. This added that realism I hope is evident in the final program.
What a joy to be a part of this on going project. I look forward to many more rewarding days on set!
